Datasets from the primary providers includes DNA databanks from DDBJ, and GenBank. Protein data of PIR, SwissProt (read license) and TrEMBL. Others include BLOCKS, ENZYME, PROSITE (read license) and REBASE.

NOTICE

This is a world BioInformatics public service for high speed access to up-to-date DNA & protein biological sequence databanks. Access to these databases from their original site is dependant on existing internet speeds. Creation of mirror sites in specific regions gives rise to easier accessibility by different countries within those regions. A mirrored database resource means that the database is supposed to be equivalent to searching the original database and the mirror is nearly identical to the original one.

The Bio-Mirror project provides users with high speed access to these large databases, some of which exceed 10 Gigabytes. The project sites are connected with the Internet II infrastructure of vBNS and the Asia-Pacific Advanced Network (APAN).

UPDATE STATUS

Webpage Update: 2nd September 2010

SINGAPORE USERS

We would appreciate if users from NUS & other users within Singapore could use these local mirrors instead of hitting the original sites.

REGIONAL USERS

If your network link to Singapore is faster than to the USA or the home base of the databse resource, it would make sense for you to download the data from the Singapore BioMirror.
